Dear SPUSD Families, Faculty, Staff and Administrators,
As we approach the end of the year and Winter Break, we wanted to provide you with some new information about COVID-19 travel recommendations and various COVID-19 practices at the elementary, middle and high schools.
LACDPH Travel Guidance
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health recently updated their travel guidance. If you plan to travel, please be mindful of these changes:
- Unvaccinated people need to quarantine for 7 full days after returning from domestic or international travel and get tested between 3-5 days of returning
- Vaccinated people should get tested 3-5 days after international travel, and consider getting tested 3-5 days after domestic travel
- Vaccinated and unvaccinated people should stay home and get tested regardless of vaccination status if developing any symptoms
Please review the detailed travel recommendations and requirements including two helpful charts
here.
Vaccination Status - All StudentsNow that children ages 5+ are eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations, please notify the health clerk at your child’s school (including elementary schools, SPMS, and SPHS) once your child is fully vaccinated. Please email a copy of the vaccination card or virtual record directly to your child’s school health clerk.
The confidential information will be stored in your child’s health file and will be used by the SPUSD Health Team when/if there is a COVID-19 case identified at school. Knowing information about students’ vaccination status assists the health team in determining which students do not need to quarantine and which students qualify for modified quarantine.
Here is contact information for each school’s health clerk:
Arroyo Vista: Sarah Gandara,
[email protected]Marengo: Edwin Rosario,
[email protected] Monterey Hills: Jezebel Lopez,
[email protected]SPMS: Savannah Duke,
[email protected]SPHS: Jill Lopez,
[email protected] Notification ReminderWith more students, especially ages 5-11, approaching full vaccination status, please be aware that if there is a case of COVID-19 at your child’s school, you may receive a
written notification about your child being in close contact with the positive case. If your child is vaccinated, the notification will alert you that your child may return to school the next day and that you should closely monitor for symptoms for the next 14 days. It also is recommended to test after day 5 of exposure.
Please note that you will not receive a phone call unless your child must quarantine or qualifies for modified quarantine. Vaccination Clinic on SaturdaySPUSD in partnership with USC Pharmacy is hosting a COVID-19 Vaccination Drive for individuals ages 12+ on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the SPMS gymnasium. This is a one dose clinic for boosters, first, or second doses. SPUSD will not host a second dose clinic in three weeks due to Winter Break. Eligibility for a booster is ages 18+ and 6 months from a second dose. Unfortunately, USC Pharmacy does not have pediatric doses (ages 5-11) available at this time. Please
register in advance. To view the event flyer, click

Student and employee health and safety is an SPUSD priority. We encourage all students, employees, and families to get vaccinated if they are eligible and follow all safety protocols, including mask wearing, physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and regular testing, to avoid the spread of coronavirus. Let’s stay as healthy as possible this Winter Break so that we may return to school strong in the new year.
Regards,
Abby Silver
