SPUSD COVID-19 Update - November 16, 2021

Dear SPUSD Families, Faculty, Staff, and Administrators,

We are very pleased with our progress this semester and are feeling thankful for students, parents, and employees who continue to adhere to the state health orders/mandates and Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) safety protocols. While vaccines are available for our youngest learners, we’re happy to report that more than 90% of South Pasadena High School students are vaccinated!

Vaccines continue to be the best tool to push back against this pandemic. We continue to encourage everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Following are some additional updates about testing and an upcoming SPUSD Vaccination Clinic.

COVID-19 Weekly Surveillance Testing at SPMS
During Thanksgiving break, we will skip a week of the optional surveillance testing at SPMS. The program will be up and running again the following week with registration due by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, November 26, 2021 to participate in testing on Tuesday, November 30. Here is a link to testing sites in Los Angeles county if you or your families need to be tested during the break. Please note that SPHS Athletic testing will be taking place on Monday, November 22. Your child’s coach will have additional information, if needed.

SPUSD Vaccination Clinic - Coming in December
SPUSD would like to invite everyone to save the date of Saturday, December 11 for a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic. We will be partnering again with USC Pharmacy for this vaccination event and more information for scheduling an appointment will be emailed in the near future. In the meantime, many facilities in the area are able to provide COVID-19 vaccines to children and adults immediately so please do not wait for the clinic if you have the opportunity to receive a vaccine prior to December 11. For more information about the vaccines or to schedule an appointment, please follow this link.

Additional Resources
The SPUSD website has been updated with additional COVID-19 resources and information. Click here for information including the COVID-19 Dashboard, details about quarantine, guidelines for sick individuals, and mask wearing recommendations, among other topics.

Please remain diligent as we head into the holidays and remember that what happens outside of our schools enters our school classrooms. It is also very important to adhere to the LACDPH travel advisories, linked here. The advisories are very clear for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Please help us continue to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on students and our employees by doing your part.

Thank you again for your support.

Regards,

Geoff Yantz, Ed.D.
