REGISTRATION DATES
NEW STUDENTS
Registration occurs in a four-step process completed by the parent or legal guardian of the child:
If your student is a current 5th grader at a South Pasadena elementary school, they will automatically be enrolled at South Pasadena Middle School for 6th grade for the following school year.
NOTES:
South Pasadena Middle School will be closed for the summer and will reopen August 1, 2025. Families may not receive a response to a registration appointment request until after August 1, 2025, when the office re-opens.
There will be an optional Math and ELA placement testing taking place at SPMS for students new to SPUSD in 2025 taking place in April and August 2025. The August dates are TBD. The ELA placement test will take place from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. The Math placement test will take place from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. The August 2025 (TBD) test date will be the only option available prior to school starting to take these optional ELA and math placement tests. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior, and if you're waiting for a registration appointment, or will not have completed your registration appointment prior to the August 2025 TBD test date, you should still send your student if you are interested in taking these optional tests. Your student will be placed in grade level math and English if you do not choose to take the optional placement tests.
Guardianships and Dual Family Residencies must be approved in advance by the Human Resources office at the District Office. Please email Katy Nielsen at [email protected].

If you are a South Pasadena resident, and your child previously attended a SPUSD school, you do not need to complete the online registration. Email [email protected] to schedule an appointment and indicate the student's name, date of birth, last school, grade and year he/she attended in SPUSD.
Please bring the following to the registration appointment in addition to the items listed in Step 4 above:
