On March 17, 2018, a team of South Pasadena Middle School 6^th graders won the Top Team Trophy in the 22^nd Annual Mathleague.org state qualifying round for Southern California. The team, comprised of Sequoia Ding, Alex Ninomiya, Rika Kodama-Sekihara, and Yuuto Izumi, placed 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, and 4^th respectively in the individual portion of the event. A total of 70 math students participated. All four individuals as well as the team as a whole qualified for the state level competition in April 2018 at University of California, Davis.
