On November 11, 2017, 20 South Pasadena High School decathletes competed in round one of Academic Decathlon competition at Monrovia High School. South Pasadena earned over 80% of the awards given at the competition by sweeping the top three awards in all seven objective events -- Art, Economics, Literature, Math, Music, Science, and Social Science. SPHS students also set a new record for the highest overall team score for Los Angeles County. Junior Steven Chin is the overall highest-scoring decathlete in our region, while senior Thomas Sawano is the highest-scoring scholastic student. The team will continue to compete during second semester – go Tigers!
