Engineering Students Showcase Innovative Designs

On Friday, May 22, 2026, SPHS students in the Project Lead the Way Honors Engineering Design and Development class shared the projects they have built and tested this semester to solve key problems they identified and researched last semester.

Groups of three to four students articulated the problems they were trying to solve and the solutions they created. From an automatic door closer to a solution for problematic wires to a coat that transforms into a clutch to an app that helps you sleep more efficiently, these projects created by our future engineers demonstrated creativity, knowledge, and a passion for design.

Engineering Design and Development is the capstone course for both the SPHS Engineering Design and Computer Science Pathways and is taught by Garrett Shorr. Los Angeles Public Works’ STEAM Outreach Program supports this course every year by sending engineers to provide feedback once each semester. Thank you to Tiffany Chang and Jennifer Rodriguez for lending their time and expertise to SPHS students this year.

Go, Tigers!
