Dr. Angela Elizondo Baxter to be Named Next Superintendent of South Pasadena Unified School District

South Pasadena, Calif. (May 2, 2025) – Angela Elizondo Baxter, Ed.D. has been selected as the next superintendent to lead the South Pasadena Unified School District (SPUSD). The SPUSD Board of Education followed a rigorous selection process of vetting more than thirty candidates before choosing Dr. Baxter, current Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for Culver City Unified School District. She is known for her innovative instructional programming and effective advocacy on behalf of the students, staff, and families of this respected public school community.

Prior to her current role, Dr. Baxter served as a highly-successful International Baccalaureate Principal, a Professional Development Coordinator, a County Office Content Specialist, and an award-winning elementary school teacher.

Dr. Angela Elizondo Baxter earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, a Master’s Degree in Education from Texas State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

The SPUSD Board extends their deep appreciation for the educational and community partners who contributed to focus groups and survey feedback in order to develop the leadership profile that was foundational to the superintendent selection process. In addition, the Board’s gratitude is extended to all applicants who put forth their time and energy in offering their candidacy to serve SPUSD and its families in this vital role.

The South Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education is scheduled to vote on Angela Elizondo Baxter’s appointment and contract at the May 13, 2025 school board meeting. Dr. Angela Elizondo Baxter’s service is slated to begin on July 1, 2025, immediately following the retirement of Dr. Geoff Yantz on June 30, 2025.
