SPHS Student-Athletes Make History with CIF Wins

For the first time in SPHS history, the high school accomplished the seemingly impossible: our student-athletes have claimed a CIF state title in girls volleyball, a CIF regional state title in boys water polo, a girls cross country southern section CIF title and a boys cross country runner-up title. Achieving just one of these accomplishments in a year is remarkable and achieving four titles in one season is beyond incredible. Here is a brief summary of the results. Go, Tigers!

Girls Volleyball: CIF Division 4 State Champions
The Girls Volleyball team brought home the Division 4 State Championship crown. With a never-give-up, resilient and focused demeanor, they defeated Hilmar High School from the Modesto area.

Boys Water Polo: CIF Division 3 State Regional Champions
Varsity Boys Water Polo finished their season over the weekend as reigning Division 3 State Regional Champions. The team defeated Cleveland High School 12-6 after powering through Granada Hills and Palisades.

Girls Cross Country: CIF Southern Section Division 3 Champs & Boys Cross Country: CIF Southern Section Division 3 Runners-Up
Girls Cross Country finished in first place in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championship after this weekend’s competition at Mt. San Antonio College. Abigail Errington earned an individual CIF first place finish and Saidbh Byrne finished fourth.

The Boys Cross Country team took home CIF Southern Section Division 3 runner-up honors. Both the boys and girls cross country teams will compete in Clovis, Calif. this Saturday, November 30 in the state championship.

Boys Football: Rio Hondo League Champions
The SPHS Football team wrapped up its season in the CIF Semifinals on Friday night after being defeated by Silverado from Victorville. South Pasadena finished the 2024 season with a 10-3 overall record, including its first Rio Hondo League championship in 47 years after showcasing a perfect 5-0 mark. During the regular season, the team won its rival game versus San Marino and brought the Rival Plaque back to SPHS!

Girls Tennis: CIF Individual Playoffs
The Girls Tennis team finished 14-2 and competed in Division 1 playoffs. Freshman Felicity Mason made it to the second round in the CIF individual playoffs and had an outstanding first year with the Tigers.

The SPHS Tigers have had an incredible fall season!
