SPMS Students Return to Campus

On Thursday, April 8, 2021, South Pasadena Middle School students returned to in-person instruction on campus for the first time in more than a year. With all safety protocols in place including screenings, temperature checks, social distancing, and mask wearing, the campus blossomed with smiles, laughter, and learning from students, staff, and faculty.

In the classrooms, teachers greeted students and welcomed them to their desks spaced a safe distance from one another. With hybrid learning, teachers instruct students in-person at the same time that students who participate in distance learning watch and interact from home. Classrooms are equipped with new technology including but not limited to: multiple computers, microphones, speakers, document cameras, projectors, iPads, and screens to help connect students to each other. Teachers are able to walk around the classroom to assist students while also teaching lessons or demonstrating concepts using document cameras for all students to see. It may be difficult to visualize how a hybrid classroom works so SPUSD has developed this short video.

Thank you to all the teachers, staff, students, and parents for such a smooth opening this week. With elementary and middle schools students back in class, we are looking forward to our high schoolers’ return next week.

Go Tiger Cubs!
