Dear Parents of our 5th Graders,
Monterey Hills School is excited to celebrate the class of 2021! We have a few activities we want to let you know about so you can add them to your calendars.
May 21: Our Friday Assembly will be devoted to our 5th grade promoting class. Each class will present something special in this video to share with the entire school.
May 28th: We are going to 'recreate' a promotion ceremony for our 5th Grade Students, Class of 2021! We have recorded a virtual promotion assembly and designed a car-parade, to simulate what students would have experienced had we been able to gather on May 28th.
Virtual Promotion Assembly Via Zoom:
The first part of the celebration will begin at 8:30 am. Teachers will send their class a Zoom invite so that families can view the assembly together to share this important event. Join us as we congratulate your children and share special memories!
Car Drive-Through
Our teachers want to wish everyone well, so we have planned a safely curated parade of cars. Thanks to our 5th Grade Parent Committee, PTA Ex. Board and MHS staff, we will have the area decorated and provide a festive environment! Teachers and staff will cheer our 5th grade students forward, as they drive up Via del Rey in front of Monterey Hills School.
We will ask that cars line up in procession going east on Monterey Road in order to turn right on Via Del Rey. We are lucky enough to have the South Pasadena Police Dept. to help guide the traffic at that corner.

In order to ensure continued safety and avoid too much extra traffic, we have set a schedule for each class to begin their caravan as follows:
Please know that if it is not possible for both parents to be in one car, it is fine to either caravan behind your child, or to have your child drive through the line twice, once, with each parent. We will ask that you travel up Via Del Rey and then turn into MHS drive thru, safely exiting right to Via Del Rey.
Parent Sponsored Carnival: Our 5th Grade Parent Committee have planned an on-site after school carnival for our students. This is an optional activity for our students and more information will be sent to you directly from the Committee.
June 1st: A recorded Awards Ceremony for those students who have worked to achieve: Bilingual/Biliteracy Award, Cultural Awareness, Dual Immersion Pillar Award, Presidential Academic Award and Presidential Achievement Award. The link to the recorded Awards Ceremony will be sent to the parents of those students who will be receiving these hard earned awards.
We are excited to celebrate promotion with your children in a safe and celebratory manner.
