Middle School Registration

Parents who wish to pre-enroll their new middle school student (entering 6th, 7th or 8th grade, and not currently attending a SPUSD school) for the 2022-2023 school year may contact SPMS after Monday, April 18, 2022, by emailing [email protected] to set up a registration appointment, which will take place at South Pasadena Middle School, 1500 Fair Oak Avenue, South Pasadena, CA 91030. 

South Pasadena Middle School is closed for the summer and will re-open on August 1st.  Families may not receive a response to their appointment request until after August 1st. There will be required math and ELA placement testing taking place at the SPMS office for students new to SPUSD in 2022 taking place on Friday, August 5, 2022: ELA 10:00 am to 11:30 am, and Math 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. SPUSD students entering 6th grade who attended SPUSD schools for 5th grade will have already taken these tests in the spring of 2022.

SAFETY PROTOCOLS FOR IN-PERSON REGISTRATION:

  • Do not enter any District facility if you have any cold or flu symptoms including a cough or a fever
  • Wear a personal mask that provides you the greatest coverage and comfort
  • Use hand sanitizer and sanitize your hands often
  • Disposable pens will be used during in person registration

If you are a South Pasadena resident, and your child is currently enrolled in a SPUSD school, you do not need to re-register. Information will be sent to you via email regarding annual notifications in early to mid-July. If your child is not currently enrolled in a SPUSD school, but previously attended an elementary school or SPMS, and you want to re-enroll, you do not need to complete a new online registration.  Simply email [email protected] to schedule an appointment, and indicate the student's name, date of birth, last school, grade and year he/she attended in SPUSD. You will not receive a response prior to August 1, 2022, which is when the school re-opens and staff returns to work.

Before starting the registration process, please make sure you have a valid address where you currently reside within the boundary of the South Pasadena Unified School District – zip code 91030 only.

One item from each of the following 6 areas must be presented at the time of your registration appointment. All documents must be originals and must include the name of the parent/guardian and the South Pasadena address.

  1. Driver’s License or Legal Photo Identification of Parent/Guardian
  2. Original birth certificate, hospital certificate or passport
  3. Student immunization record - (yellow) Californian Immunization card or doctor records                  

Three (3) residency verification documents are required for enrollment. Must provide one from each category.

  1. Category A – Deed of Trust, mortgage payment receipt (dated within the past month), rental/lease agreement listing all names of occupants and the name, address, phone number and signature of landlord/management company. Also property tax bill (dated within the past year) or closing escrow papers.
  2. Category B – utility bill (example: So. California Edison, The Gas Company, Water Bill),  or cable/internet provider bill (example: Time Warner, Direct TV) – dated within the past month, entire bill with all pages present must be submitted
  3. Category C – an additional utility bill [different than what is provided in Category B] (example: Southern California Edison, The Gas Company, Water Bill)  - dated within the past month and the entire bill, with all pages present, must be submitted,  current car registration (dated within the past year), car insurance statement (dated within the past 6 months to 1 year), health insurance statement (dated within the past month), bank statement (or signed letter on bank letterhead with the South Pasadena address, dated within the past month), current federal or state tax correspondences - dated within the past 6 months.

In addition, the most recent report card is also required, as well as CAASPP state test scores for 2021-2022. If there are special circumstances (ESL, Special Education, or health problems) please provide appropriate documentation, such as ELPAC test scores or current IEP or 504 plan.

The final step prior to requesting an appointment is to go to my.spusd.net and complete the registration application in Aeries Internet Registration (AIR).  Please do not use all capital or all lower-case letters.  You must fill in all required information.  Two printed copies of your completed AIR registration must be submitted at the time of your appointment with the registrar. All new students must take a math placement test and an ELA placement test before they can be given a class schedule. The ELA placement test will be offered on Friday, August 5th from 10:00 to 11:30 am The math placement test will be offered on Friday, August 5th from 1:00 - 2:30 pm for new (to SPUSD) incoming students at SPMS. Testing will occur at SPMS office, 1500 Fair Oaks Avenue, South Pasadena, CA 91030.

Once you have all of the above-listed documentation, please contact the SPMS registrar by email at [email protected] to request an appointment.   South Pasadena Middle School is closed for the summer and will re-open on August 1st.  Families may not receive a response to their appointment request until after August 1st. 

The first day of school for the 2022-2023 school year will be Thursday, August 11, 2022.
