Long-Term Independent Study

For the 2021-2022 school year, school districts may offer independent study for TK-12 students whose health would be put at risk by in-person learning.

To participate in the independent study program, TK-12 students must be able to manage their work at home independently and have a parent/guardian/caregiver who is able to assist in accessing learning. Content for the program will be provided by the online educational platform Edgenuity and will be aligned to California standards.

To learn more about SPUSD Independent Study, parents and caregivers should review the FAQ below, review the content area and course listings below, and watch the recorded webinar (link). Parents/Guardians must enroll their children for the Independent Study Program by July 29, 2021 at 9am using this enrollment form. If the Independent Study Program is not selected by July 29 at 9am, then the student will default to in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year.

Short-Term Independent Study

For the 2021-2022 school year, students absent between 3-14 consecutive days are eligible for short-term independent study.  Please contact the attendance clerk at your school site for more information.

For TK-5 students, as your classroom teacher prepares your independent study assignments, please use the below PDF to access daily assignments in the various content areas of English language arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education (PE), and Electives.  These resources may also be used to supplement the work your classroom teacher has provided.
