New Students to the District » Elementary Schools
If you want to register your child for the 2011-2012 school year
If your child is new to the District, and you would like to enroll your child at any of our elementary schools for the 2011-2012 school year, you will have several opportunities to register this summer at the District Office while the elementary schools are closed for the summer. If you are unsure which is your school of residence, please contact 626-441-5810 X1120 and ask to verify your address and the corresponding elementary school/school of residence. If you would like to verify that your address is in South Pasadena, please visit the District Lookup website, and enter your address and it will identify the school district pertaining to your address.

The information below pertains to South Pasadena residents only. Working in South Pasadena does not constitute residency.

Elementary Registration packets will be available at the District Office in Instructional Services, Room 4, beginning July 5th. The Instructional Services office is open Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will be closed on the following Fridays: July 15, July 22, and July 29th.

Please be aware that as a resident of South Pasadena, your children are guaranteed a spot in one of our three elementary schools; student placement is determined within each home school of residence by date and time of registration. Elementary schools were open until June 30, 2011 and are now closed for the summer. It is possible that your student will not be able to be placed at their home school for the 2011-2012 school year, especially in grades K- 3 where class size is limited to 20 students per class. We will make our best effort to place siblings together at the same school, but this is not always possible.

If you move in to South Pasadena after June 30, 2011, there will be an opportunity to register your incoming K-5 student on Thursday, July 14, 2011 and also on August 11 and 12, 2011, and finally on August 18, 2011, at the District Office, Room 4, at 1020 El Centro Street, South Pasadena. On all four summer registration days, registration will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m to 3 p.m.  The week of August 22nd, daily registration for new K-5 students will take place at the District Office from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. only. The first day of school will be Thursday, August 25, 2011.  If you move in after August 25th, and need to register your child, you will complete that registration at your school of residence (Arroyo Vista, Marengo, or Monterey Hills).

You may not register for school until you reside in South Pasadena and have your appropriate three proofs of residence, and registration must be done by the parent or legal guardian of the child.

Incoming Kindergarten students for the 2011-2012 school year must be 5 years old by December 2, 2011, and incoming first grade students for the 2011-2012 school year must be 6 years old by December 2, 2011.  This is per California Education Code (48000a), and no exceptions will be made.  Incoming Kindergarten students for the 2012-2013 school year must be 5 years old by November 1, 2012. Incoming Kindergarten students for the 2013-2014 school year must be 5 years old by October 1, 2013.  Incoming Kindergarten students for the 2014-2015 school year must by 5 years old by September 1, 2014.  After this date, September 1 will be the annual cut-off date for all incoming kindergarten students.

Please remember that all incoming students who have moved here from out of state or out of the country will need to provide proof of the immunizations required by California law, and a Mantoux (Mtx) TB test given within the past year.  If the Mtx test is positive, you will need proof of a negative chest x-ray. If you need help in obtaining the Mtx test or vaccines, you may contact the Monrovia Health Services Clinic at 626-256-1600. They provide a free Mantoux TB test and other immunizations for children.

If you are the legal guardian of a student, or are residing in a "Dual Family Residency" (two families sharing a residence), you will need to contact the Office of Personnel at 626-441-5810 X1130 for an appointment prior to  registering your child(ren). The Personnel Office has set aside Thursday, March 31, 2011 as the day for new family Dual Family Residency and Guardianship approvals, and an appointment is required. For more information, please look under "District Enrollment Policies" under "Guardianship Information" and "Dual Residency Requirements".
