SPHS Band & Orchestra Students Earn High Honors at Recent Competition

On April 21-22, 2017, the SPHS String Orchestra, Jazz Band, Concert Band and Symphonic Ban performed and competed at the WorldStrides OnStage Programs Heritage Festival in San Francisco. Out of 28 attending orchestras and bands, the SPHS music groups won several awards. See below for the entire list of accolades:
 
String Orchestra: Gold Award - Superior - 1st Place
Jazz Band: Gold Award - Superior - 2nd Place
Symphonic Band: Silver Award - Excellent - 2nd Place
Concert Band: Silver Award - Excellent
 
Instrumental Sweepstakes Award - Highest number of points with combined instrumental group scores
Orchestra Sweepstakes Award - Highest scoring orchestra at the Festival
Instrumental Adjudicators Award - The adjudicators select groups based on the highest musical standards. This award is not given at every festival.
 
Judges presented four of the nine Maestro Awards to South Pasadena students. The Maestro Award is given to students who display extraordinary musical ability and sensitivity. Our winning students are:
 
Niko Tripodis - Guitar, Jazz Band
Euan Zhang - Alto Sax, Jazz Band
Andrew Son - Trumpet, Jazz Band
Arinna Cho - Violin, Orchestra
